ChEMS Prof Improves Solar Cells
The research of Scott Calabrese Barton, assistant professor of chemical engineering and materials science, shows that a film of carbon nanotubes may be able to replace two of the layers normally used in a solar cell, with improved performance at a lower cost. [more]

MSU Graphene Can Make Materials Tougher, Lighter
Graphene, developed by Larry Drzal's research group and patented at MSU, will be produced by XG Sciences, Inc., in the Lansing area. It offers a cheaper and safer alternative to carbon nanotubes for making polymer composites.

Jain Wins Prestigious IEEE Award
Anil Jain, University Distinguished Professor of computer science & engineering and electrical & computer engineering, was awarded the IEEE Computer Society's W. Wallace McDowell Award for "pioneering contributions to pattern recognition, computer vision, and biometric recognition systems."

Chalou to Participate in Italian Technology Awards
Academic Specialist Bob Chalou of the Department of Mechanical Engineering has been selected to participate as a faculty member in the 2008 program, "The Italian Machine Tool Technology Awards." He will travel to Italy the last week of June.
