What?

College of Engineering Design Day invites middle and high schools to where students can observe engineering student projects, and engage in hands-on projects. MSU College of Engineering now has engineering design competition for middle and high school students to Design Day, and in the past academic year, it has attracted over 700 middle school and high school students who participated. The program has become so popular with schools in Michigan that it will be expanded to two days (one for middle schools, the second for high schools) in order to accommodate the demand.

Spartan FIRST LEGO League Challenge - East Lansing Regional Tournament

What? FIRST LEGO League Challenge - East Lansing Regional Tournament will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2008 in the IM-Circle on the MSU Campus. A total of sixteen FIRST LEGO League teams from the state of Michigan including ten teams sponsored by MSU Engineering, will compete in the regional tournament to earn the rights to advance to the State Tournament in mid-December.

Teams will compete to gain maximum points in the area of Teamwork, Research Presentation, Technical Interview, and their Robot Performance category.

Building a Global Game Plan

Embark on an exploration of the earth's climate in the Climate Connections Challenge! Discover the links between science, people, resources and communities. Unearth how we learn about past climates and delve into questions surrounding our current and future climatic conditions. Join FLL teams in creating a global game plan as they make these Climate Connections!

Every year, FLL works with experts in the field to create a Challenge that relates to a significant real-world issue. The end result is a two-part Challenge that requires research to complete The Project, and science and engineering to master the complex missions of The Robot Game. It’s a fun and exciting way to encourage kids’ minds.

Grandparents University

What? The MSU Grandparents University is a program for grandparents and grandchildren (ages 8-12) to come together for a 3-day educational experience while spending time together on the MSU campus. Participants enjoy the college experience of living in the dorms, attending classes across campus and sampling the many highlights of MSU.

College of Engineering Future Engineers Open House is an opportunity for high school juniors, and seniors and transfer prospective students in and around the state of Michigan to experience the latest that MSU has to offer in engineering.

What types of events will be at Future Engineers Open House?
A variety of interesting and exciting events can be found at the Open House. Meet with professors, tour laboratories and see scientific demonstrations, learn about majors and careers, talk with current MSU students, and much more. Future Engineers Open House activities are geared to this level of students, so attendance by younger student groups is not recommended. Women in Engineering (WIE)

What? Designed to encourage high school women to consider engineering as a career option. Students will be exposed to the majors in Biosystem Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Engineering Sciences, and Computer Science and Engineering. Special sessions are also presented on women in engineering issues, diversity, cooperative education, and international education opportunities. The students also visit a manufacturing facility in Michigan. The program concludes with a closing ceremony involving students, their parents, participating faculty, student assistants and academic staff.

HSEI has run for over 40 years. Students spend a week exploring engineering through lecture, lab and design sessions run by faculty and student assistants from our various programs. Special sessions are also presented on diversity, cooperative education, and international education opportunities. The students also visit a manufacturing facility in Michigan. The program concludes with a cookout involving students, their parents, participating faculty, student assistants and academic staff.

LEGO Robotics to WIMS Program is a one-week commuter program that meets from 8am - Noon, Monday - Friday. It is designed to focus on engineering design process, team-building, communication, problem-solving, programming, presentation, and competition.
