Scholarships

The MSU College of Engineering offers more than 300 scholarships to undergraduate students each year for a total of approximately $500,000 in amounts ranging from $100 to $13,000. There are separate selection processes for obtaining scholarships for incoming freshmen and current engineering students.

Incoming freshmen scholarships of $1,000 - $1,500 are offered on a one-year basis to high achieving students. You are invited to contact Drew Kim, Director of Recruiting and K-12 Outreach at (517) 353-7282 or kima@egr.msu.edu.

Returning students are considered for all engineering scholarships for which they are eligible by completing one scholarship application annually. Applications are available in November on this web page and are due by the end of February.  Allocations are made by a college committee spring semester, for award the following fall.

The following guidelines govern the selection process:

  1. Academic excellence is the primary criterion, but financial need is considered for some awards. Some awards are based on extracurricular activities, community service, co-op and other work experience, professional and honor societies, career interests, and other relevant information. Your attached resume should reflect these accomplishments.
     
  2. A minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 based on credits at MSU is required including Fall Semester, 2008.
     
  3. New students must have completed a minimum of 12 credits at MSU at the end of Fall Semester, 2008.
